Energy Efficiency

McMinnville Water and Light Company offers a variety of rebates for commercial and industrial customers to make energy efficient improvements to eligible facilities. MW&L offers rebates in three categories: Lighting retrofits, motor replacements, and process efficiency. Past lighting projects have included fluorescent lighting retrofits, mercury vapor replacements to high efficiency metal halide, and high pressure sodium lights and dimming and lighting control upgrades. For the process efficiency program, MW&L will evaluate the facility's equipment or processes to determine if there is an opportunity to improve the equipment efficiency. MW&L will make recommendations for improvements and perform an economic analysis to see if the project is cost effective. Energy loans are also available from MW&L for energy efficiency improvements and are available to individuals, businesses, schools, cities, counties, special districts, state and federal agencies, public corporations, cooperatives, tribes, and nonprofits. 

MassSAVE organizes commercial, industrial, and institutional conservation services for programs administered by Massachusetts electric companies, gas companies and municipal aggregators. These utilities include Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, The Berkshire Gas Company, Cape Light Compact, National Grid, New England Gas Company, NSTAR, Unitil, and Western Massachusetts Electric Company. The programs are available to all customers which have a facility that buys its power from one of MassSAVE's member companies. Customers must notify their MassSAVE program administrator technical representative to arrange a pre-approval process. Custom applications require documentation and pre-approval of all measures.

Certain municipal utilities in Massachusetts, in cooperation with Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company (MMWEC), have begun offering energy efficiency incentives to their commercial and industrial customers. The MMWEC administers the programs on behalf of the municipal utilities. There are several programs offered, generally these include  commercial and industrial retrofit programs, lighting programs, and new construction programs.

It should be noted that municipal utilities may choose to customize programs and not all utilities will offer exactly the same incentives to their customers. Interested customers must review the program descriptions and application materials of their municipal utility provider for specific incentive information. Currently, the following municipal utilities offer commercial energy efficiency incentive programs through MMWEC:

Westfield Gas and Electric Department

Chicopee Electric Light Department

Ipswich Municipal Light Department 

MMWEC will maintain a list of participating utilities in the future.

Loveland Water & Power, in conjunction with the Platte River Power Authority provides businesses incentives for new construction projects and existing building retrofits. The Electric Efficiency Program encourages companies to retrofit eligible facilities with new energy efficient equipment. Eligible facilities may receive incentives for purchasing efficient light fixtures and controls (LightenUp Program), food service equipment, mechanical systems, and building envelope improvements. Most rebates for equipment and efficiency measures are offered on a prescriptive basis. However, custom incentives are the greater of $500 per kilowatt (kW) of summer peak demand reduction or $0.10 per annual kilowatt-hour (kWh) saved. Air conditioner and heat pump models not included under prescriptive measures may still be eligible for custom rebates if the equipment efficiency is demonstrated to be exceptional. 

Louisville Gas and Electric (LGE) offers rebates to all commercial customers who pay a DSM charge on monthly bills. Rebates are available on lighting measures, sensors, air conditioners, heat pumps, motors, pumps, variable frequency drives, chillers, chilled water resets, thermal storage systems, and an optional and free energy audit. Customers must complete and sign an application form prior to project completion. Measure type, quantity and estimated completion date must be included. Eligible customers will receive an Installation Confirmation Form, which is to be completed and returned to LGE within 90 days after project completion. Proof of purchase, installation details, model number, operable date and manufacturers information must be included with form. Annual maximum rebate amount per calendar year, per facility is $50,000. Rebates will be received in check form within 45 days of receiving Installation Confirmation Form. New facilities are not eligible for this program. 

Longmont Power & Communications, in conjunction with the Platte River Power Authority provides businesses incentives for new construction projects and existing building retrofits. Longmont Power & Communications also offers the Building Tune Up Program, which provides up to $50,000 to help commercial and industrial customers identify significant energy saving opportunities in existing facilities and system operations. Participants must be committed to spending $4,000 towards efficiency improvements if a facility is under 50,000 ft2, $4,000 + $0.04/ft2 for facilities between 50,000 and 200,000 ft2, or $12,000 for facilities larger than 200,000 ft2.  Facility conditions such as energy costs, building size, and building age will also affect the viability of project proposals.

Long Island Power Authority offers a variety of incentives for its non-residential customers to increase the energy efficiency of facilities through the Commercial Efficiency Program. Major renovations of existing buildings and new construction projects are both eligible for this program, with new construction incentives being slightly reduced compared to existing building incentives. There are several paths to choose from in the program, each one designed to fit the needs of a particular customer.

The Prescriptive Approach offers rebates on a pre-qualified list of energy-efficient equipment including lighting, compressed air, kitchen equipment, variable frequency drives, and HVAC equipment.

The Custom Approach provides funding for more complex energy-saving measures, perhaps measures unique to the building or business, which are not covered under the prescriptive approach.

The Green Building Approach allows businesses to pursue options that fully integrate building envelope and operating systems to produce a building as energy efficient as current technology and design allows.

Incentives will cover a portion of the additional design and equipment expenses required to create an exemplary building. For customers exploring the custom approach or the whole building design approach LIPA will provide up to $10,000 in technical assistance services, including consultants to help businesses choose and implement energy-efficient measures and equipment. For more complex projects, LIPA will provide 50 percent of any additional planning costs, up to $50,000. Follow all steps on rebate applications if pursuing incentives.

Lodi Electric Utility (LEU) offers 3 commercial energy efficiency programs to eligible customers. Available incentives are based upon the customer rate schedule. Each program has separate incentive maximum amounts and eligible technologies. 

G-1 Energy Conservation incentives cover up to $250 in energy efficiency upgrades on ceiling fans, attic fans, ventilators, weatherstripping, attic insulation, duct replacement, duct repair, window shades, awning covers, HVAC diagnostics and refrigeration diagnostics. This program also offers an incentive for the installation of energy efficient air conditioners and lighting improvements. Rebates for lighting and air conditioners are capped at $1,000 and cover 25% of the cost. 

The G-2 Energy Conservation incentives are available for building automation, energy management controls, lighting retrofits, chillers, mechanical equipment replacements, HVAC diagnostics, and refrigerator diagnostics. This incentive is capped at $7,500. Projects under this program must achieve 15% energy savings. Special projects are also available under this offering. 

G-3 to I-1 Energy Conservation incentives are available to customers on the G-3, G-4, G-5 or I-1 utility rate. The maximum allowable rebate for these customers is $25,000. Incentives are based upon $0.13/kWh annual projected savings. Eligible energy efficient improvements include lighting retrofits, process/manufacturing improvements, chillers, mechanical equipment, building automation, and controls. 

Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative Association (Linn County RECA) is a member-owned cooperative. To encourage energy efficiency, Linn County offers a number of rebates to commercial customers. Owners of both New Construction and Existing Buildings are eligible for nearly identical rebates on geothermal heat pumps, air source heat pumps, central air conditioning, air and water cooled chillers, recovery ventilators, motors, variable speed drives, lighting equipment, commercial refrigerators and freezers, electric water heaters, and various Energy Star appliances. Owners of existing buildings are also eligible for a custom rebate. 

Linn County Rural Electric Cooperative Association (Linn County RECA) is a member-owned cooperative. To encourage energy efficiency, Linn County offers a number of equipment rebates to agricultural customers. Qualifying agricultural customers are eligible to receive rebates on geothermal heat pumps, air source heat pumps, central air conditioning, a variety of dairy equipment, heat lamps and pads, equipment controls, recovery ventilators, circulation fans, motors, variable speed drives, lighting equipment, electric water heaters, and various Energy Star appliances. All program rules, equipment requirements, and procedures must be met in order to receive rebates.
